In the event of a possible damage, the deposit remains with the lessor until the insurance company settles the damage, regardless of the person who caused it.

The security deposit is used to cover any damage caused to the landlord.

This could be, for example, the deductible of Casco insurance, which must be paid to repair damage to the car caused by the renter's fault. Or minor injuries, the repair cost of which does not reach the minimum deductible of the insurance.

If you destroy or lose any of the car's accessories or equipment or cause damage to the interior, the lessor will also deduct the amount of compensation from the deposit. The amount of the subsequent deduction and the assessment of the damage are the cause of many disputes, so it is advisable to clarify everything in advance. Never take over a motorhome without a detailed inventory list and a handover report documenting the damage to the car, which must be signed by both parties! From a priced inventory list, you can find out exactly how much is deducted if, for example, you lose a car lift or a set of tools.

Of course, there may also be injuries that cannot be assessed in advance. Expect that if the value of the damage cannot be determined immediately, for example, a price quote must be requested from the repair company, or the claim procedure must be completed, the landlord may withhold part or all of the deposit until an accurate settlement can be made.
